Project Description

The Hidden World of Waffles+Mochi is a culinary adventure that takes the struggle out of grocery shopping with kids, all while encouraging healthy food choices.

This augmented reality (AR) app aims to inspire families to use fresh, nutritious ingredients for at-home cooking, just like the puppet characters on the Netflix show Waffles + Mochi.

The Experience

Kids and families can play this app while shopping for food at their local Walmart. In the experience, kids go on a quest to find specific ingredients in the grocery section, like eggs, tomatoes, corn, or herbs. Once they find them, they can point their phone camera at the ingredient to unlock animated 3D surprises in AR layered on top of the real world. Each found ingredient also unlocks a path towards the larger web-app experience that features related recipes, in addition to fun games and videos.

Our team was responsible for designing the user experience of the on-site AR experience, from initial concept designs to user journeys and final wireframes. Our designs and documentation were used by all stakeholders, including our creative partners, developers, and clients to align on the overall vision of the experience.
